A genus including about 65 species of tendril-bearing, woody, deciduous, climbing plants whose bark exfoliates with age. It has alternate, simpleto-lobed, light-green-to-dark-green leaves and it produces tiny, green flowers that blossom in panicles during the summer which are followed by edible bunches of fruit which can be used to produce wine. Seedless black dessert fruit.
